This review is written after taking 3 classes. My lower back had been bothering me and I wanted to find an exercise routine that would help strengthen my core. After reading the Yelp reviews I decided to give Pilates a try at Pilates Loft. I have really enjoyed the classes, Alia the owner is an outstanding instructor, and the facility is bright and clean. Pilates is much tougher than I thought. It's not a cardio workout. Rather it works to engage different muscle groups. After each session I feel like I've had a great stretch, have better posture, and feel like I'm taller. My back feels much better and I look forward to attending more sessions.
Came here on a whim during my 2 week Classpass trial because it was convenient to walk from Ballston. So glad that I did because I absolutely loved the Level 1 group class! I had only tried a pilates reformer class once previously and Alia was very helpful in getting me acclimated to the mat and tower. The group class is only up to 5 people max, so there is a lot of personal attention. I appreciated her correcting my form repeatedly and pushing me to my limit. I'm usually more drawn to cardio classes because sweating makes me feel like I'm working hard, but this class was no joke. I only wish the studio had more classes available through Classpass! Definitely worth a try if you are interested in learning classical pilates and getting a great workout!
Used my Classpass to check out this fabulous pilates studio. Disclaimer: I am a cardio girl, so I am usually more judgmental of yoga/pilates studios but the beginners class here left me achy and sweaty! Teacher: Alia, the owner and primary instructor, is SO passionate about pilates and getting you the best workout. When I arrived, Alia asked me what I currently do for a workout and then tailored the workout to my weak areas. Since I do a lot of spinning, she knew I would have issues with certain positions and gave me modifications based on her observations of what I was struggling with. What makes the workout extra hard/awesome: Focus on form. I got more direct results from the class at Pilates Loft because "tuck" can do different things for your body based on how your neck, shoulders, and stomach muscles are engaged. I felt the difference after attending this class the first time. Price: While it is pricey, you get what you pay for. "Barre" or "fun pilates" classes with music this is not. But it certainly kicked my weak core into shape. Parking: Building has free parking in garage tucked away on a side street, but I have usually found parking up front. Free after 6 or 6:30.
Since moving to Arlington from DC a year ago, I've been searching for a workout studio that meshes well with my fitness goals, schedule, and new locale. While I've found some great studios in the area, none have fit the bill quite like The Pilates Loft. Even though it's only been open for a couple of weeks, I was able to immediately tell that the owner/lead instructor, Alia, is passionate about Pilates and her studio, and made me feel right at home during my first visit. The Pilates Loft offers classical-style Pilates in varying levels depending on your experience with Pilates. Regardless of your experience, Alia focuses on your form throughout class to ensure you get the best workout - even the most experienced students can learn and improve under her guidance. The studio itself is beautiful. It's very clean and bright with fresh new Pilates equipment throughout the space. You'll find the classical equipment as well as Pilates Reformers, along with equipment that's used in her "Mix It Up" class (an interval-style workout). There's cubbies for your belongings, water fountains, and bathrooms as well. I recommend The Pilates Loft for students of all levels - this studio certainly focuses on building your strength and fitness through safe and proper application of the Pilates method. If you choose to go, be ready for a tough yet fulfilling workout!
