My fulfilling and rewarding careers have spanned the non-profit and corporate sectors for over a decade. As much as I enjoyed my experience in the corporate world, I felt a deeper calling towards the healing arts. As a young girl, I always had a fascination with medicine, health, nutrition and wellness. My early passion in medicine perhaps started with a toy microscope I received as a child one Christmas morning. I studied pre-medicine as an undergraduate and have a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Indiana University.
I am a Prana Flow Yoga Teacher and Vinyasa Flow Teacher Training Facilitator in the Washington, D.C. Area. I began to unravel the mystery behind Eastern Medicine after diving deeper into my personal yoga practice and teaching. I will be the first to admit to being fairly skeptical and nervous about the idea of having someone insert acupuncture needles in what appeared to be random areas of my limbs to help alleviate my nagging wrist pain. However, when my wrist pain vanished after several acupuncture treatments I realized I had finally come full circle. Within less than a month after my first acupuncture treatment I applied to Tri-State College of Acupuncture in NYC. I am licensed by the Board of Medicine in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. I am a recognized diplomat of NCCAOM, which required passing three national board exams, two in Eastern Medicine and the third in Western Medicine. I have over 2500 clinical and didactic hours received over a three year full-time rigorous program of study. I serve on the board of the Acupuncture Society of Virginia.
I am trained in four styles of Acupuncture:
- Acupuncture Physical Medicine [Myofascial Trigger Point Release also known as Acupuncture Dry Needling]
- Kiiko Matsumoto Japanese Acupuncture
- Classical Chinese Medicine
- Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM]
I completed an additional year long apprenticeship program in Classical Chinese Medicine with Timothy Aitken in NYC. I am also trained in Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy and I incorporate these modalities into my treatments as appropriate. I treat patients with an integrative approach.
