Sarah Gerk, an assistant professor of musicology, will teach music-history classes at Binghamton University, including courses in western, classical tradition and popular music.

Gerk, from Newark, Del., received her undergraduate degree in clarinet performance from the University of Delaware and her master’s degree in musicology from California State University-Long Beach. She received her doctorate in historical musicology from the University of Michigan.

She previously taught as a visiting assistant professor at Oberlin College.

Gerk specializes in 19th-century U.S. music; Irish music; popular music; race, class; gender; and national identity.

She enjoys Irish traditional music, biking, hiking, yoga, and cooking.

Sarah Lynch, clinical assistant professor, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

LYNCH

Sarah Lynch, a clinical assistant professor and director of skills education in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, specializes in medication therapy management, pharmacy education and healthcare policy.

Lynch, from Horseheads, N.Y., received her undergraduate degree in pre-pharmacy from the University at Buffalo. She received her doctor of pharmacy from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

She completed a PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Resident at Jewel-Osco and Midwestern University in Illinois.

Lynch will teach pharmaceutical skills lab courses at Binghamton University.

She enjoys reading, trying new restaurants and keeping her two recently adopted beagles busy and out of trouble.

Miesha Marzell, assistant professor of social work, College of Community and Public Affairs

MARZELL

Miesha Marzell, an assistant professor of social work, previously taught at the University of Iowa’s College of Public Health.

Marzell, from Oakland, Calif., received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgetown University and her master of social work from the University of Southern California-Los Angeles. She received her doctorate in biobehavioral health from Pennsylvania State University.

She specializes in substance abuse prevention.

At Binghamton University, Marzell will teach Foundations of Scientific Inquiry with Social Systems.

She enjoys spending time with her family and outdoor adventures.

David Slichter, assistant professor of economics, Harpur College

SLICHTER

David Slichter, an assistant professor of economics, specializes in labor economics, applied econometrics, and the economics of education.

Slichter, from Champaign, Ill., received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Harvard University. He received his master’s degree and doctorate in economics from the University of Rochester.

At Binghamton University, Slichter will teach courses on the economics of education; labor economics; and microtheory.

A self-proclaimed “washed-up athlete, ” Slichter is an amateur musician who plays guitar, piano, bass and other instruments.

Yulia Sullivan, assistant professor of management information systems, School of Management

SULLIVAN

Yulia Sullivan, an assistant professor of management information systems, will teach Information Systems Analysis and Specification, and Advanced Spreadsheet at Binghamton University.

Sullivan, from Indonesia, received her undergraduate degree in management/e-business from Bina Nusantara University in Indonesia and her master’s degree in management information systems from Chosun University in South Korea. She received her doctorate in management information systems from the University of North Texas.

Her research interests include human computer interaction; cognitive-information systems research; mixed methods research; and information systems and decision-making.

Sullivan previously served as a teaching fellow and research assistant at the University of North Texas.

Her hobbies include reading, golfing and traveling.

Rachel Turner, assistant librarian for cataloging, University Libraries

TURNER

Rachel Turner, an assistant librarian for cataloging, specializes in cataloging, linked data and the semantic web.

Turner, from Virginia Beach, Va., received her bachelor’s degree in anthropology and art history from Brandeis University. She received her master’s degree in East Asian art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London and her master of science in information system from the University of Texas-Austin.
